The University of California has embraced the goal of sustainability and is transforming its business practices to reduce its environmental impact and fight global warming.

The Office of the President is leading by example: In 2007, UCOP's Franklin Street Building became the first building in Oakland to obtain LEED for Existing Building (LEED-EB) Certification (pdf) from the US Green Building Council. The building will be recertified by the end of 2013.

Since receiving its LEED-EB Certification, UCOP has launched new programs to reduce waste, conserve electricity, improve employee health, and cut costs.
